What, When, How n’ Why
FLASHBACK:
Some time in July-Aug' 2001.
The
NIIT's branch in Gangtok. Suman(bass) and Ananth(vox) came across eachother as batchmates. Routine introductry
blah-blahs shed light on their desperate need to rock n' roll onstage n stuff ... after long personal breaks from their
previous endeavors/bands.
In walks Sonam(lead guitars), Suman's former bandmate and childhood buddy. A few casual jam sessions later, with tonnes
of cover-bands and concerts making up their individual past(s), they tried stepping into an unfimiliar terrain of making
some good ORIGINAL music together. The whole country was doing it and they simply had to be a part of this revolution...nothing
less was good enough!!! And a "trial-by-error", recording session at a local studio led to their first recorded song "Farsighted
Woman". It got some real good reviews and personal reactions from all who heard it.
The
birth of a whole new full-fledged rock entity was inevitable. And with Netra and Sameer, on drums and rhythm guitars respectively, Still Waters was born.
One small stint on stage at a local fest and another recording session later, the BIG breakthrough came in the form of their
song "Happy Go Lucky" being selected for RSJ's Great Indian
Rock fest'( GIR-VI ) in Feb'2002. Their SECOND GIG EVER was at the biggest rock festival of it's kind in India. Taking
under consideration the kind of effort so many good bands from everywhere make for that one chance to perform at GIR, this
seems UNBELIEVABLE right? Believe it !!!
After that, there's been no looking back for the band with strings of achievements piling up every now and then.
However,
the band has had it's low moments too...the departure of Sameer first (studies and all) and Ananth's seemingly impossible
departure right after their victory at IIT-Guwahati's competition "Rock-O-Phonix" in Feb'2003. Reasons best left uncovered
for everyones' good!!! Two youngsters, Vishal(rhythm guitars) and Diwash(vox) jumped into the big empty
shoes. They did well...the band did well. The shows were great and allocades still poured in abundance but something
was always amiss. There always was a void that somehow never got filled to the whole band's satisfaction.
However, when Diwash's departure(outstation college etc) coincided with Ananth's return from Delhi (where he'd been singin'
for Delhi metallers Decibel) things got HOT all over again.
Very
recently, Prayash replaced Netra on drums!
And
even more recently, Pranav has been recruited in the band's ranks as the KEYBOARDIST!!!
Currently, Still Waters is alive, kickin' and givin' more heavy-duty assault
to their fans all around!
